Description

Antique Late 19th century 29″ Marching Band Bass Drum Topsham Maine Local Band
Used
Truly Amazing Antique Marching Band Rope Tension Bass Drum
Beautiful wood shell with hand painted “Topsham Local Band” sign (Maine)
Hand painted rims, simple holes for rope threading, appears to be original rope
Both heads intact, but worn
Did not attempt to open the drum to see if there is a manufacturer’s label inside, as ropes are fragile.  Based on time period, likely a manufacturer from the New England area.
In my research, it appears the Topsham began having large local fairs around the mid-to late 1800s, growing in popularity around 1870s.  These continued to grow.  It is likely that this drum was used Late 1800s, possibly very Early 1900s
Measures approx. 29″ Diameter x 11″ Deep (close as I can get without removing rims)
Great addition to your collection!
